Prior to 1983 civil war started Passikudha was a popular beach among both local & foreign tourists as it was one of the best beaches in the world and safest to take sea bath. Soon when the riots started in July 1983 gradually the area become isolated and abandoned and started to flood with military camps covering the area instead of tourist hotels.
Soon when the civil war was over in 2009 after 30 difficult years and with the dawn of peace in the region SLTDA (Sri Lanka Tourism development Authority) is now planning to develop the area with private sector anxious in taking part of the development of the area as well the tourist resorts in the area and moving tourist traffic towards Passikudha.
During the war for the past 30 year period till 2009 the area was shattered and no development projects carried out by either local or foreign aid projects due to the uncertainty covered the area with the civil war had. Now the road system was well developed to highest standards and large are of the beach was allocated to build many luxury hotels. Even now you don’t find many clean standard type hotels in the are other than the high prized so called luxury hotels, this was the major reason not attracted this part of the country were not popular among the local and foreign tourist looking for a budget stay.
